Paint the cast iron tub with an oil-based enamel paint in your desired color. Allow the paint to dry completely. Wet a piece of 220-grit wet/dry sandpaper. Gently sand the dry enamel paint with the wet sandpaper to create a smooth surface. Wipe away any excess water with a dry cloth when you are finished sanding.. When this is dry, give the bath a quick rub down with fine sandpaper to even the surface out. 4. Apply an undercoat Dust the bath down and apply a coat of oil based undercoat. Make sure the undercoat is oil based. Paint it out using a good quality soft brush to get the undercoat as smooth as possible.
