On The Convict Trail Isle Of The Dead, Port Arthur

Sep. 2022. This small island holds the remains of approximately 1,000 souls. The Isle of the Dead is one hectare (2.5 acres) in area. Most of those interred were convicts, whose graves are unmarked, and their resting place known only to God. Officials and free settlers were also buried here.. The Convict Tour and Harbour Cruise are both wheelchair accessible. The Isle of the Dead Cemetery Tour includes walkways with relatively steep gradients up to 1:8. Assistance is recommended for people with a physical limitation that wish to take this tour. Disabled parking spaces are located adjacent to the Visitor Centre entrance.
