William Earnest's honey jar is marked Sandland, like some of the God Speed the Plough mugs, a mark which the pottery reference books list as used by the pottery of Lancaster & Sandland Ltd, of the Dresden Works, Hanley, Staffordshire. As they were in business under that name from 1944 to the 1970s, it must have been made during that time.

A fine, lightly potted mug, probably Yorkshire, decorated in tones of mottled brown and inscribed God Speed The Plow. With a scroll handle terminating in acanthus bosses. Approx - 5 inches (125mm) tall. In good condition save a hairline from the rim through to the 3rd band, nibbles to the rim and paint losses to decoration.
